Onslow County, NC — There is a scene in the movie 28 Days (the prequel to 28 Days Later), where Sandra Bullocks character, whose in rehab for alcoholism, is advised to buy a plant and if it’s still alive thee weeks later, she’s ready to start up a relationship.  Well, someone should have passed that info along to foster parents Johnathan Earle Savage (29) and Brandi Michelle Savage (also 29).  I’m not sure how in the world they even got past the screening process for foster parents, given the nature of the crimes they are charged with.

Somehow these two got a hold of a five year old boy and four year old girl.  From November of last year until this past August, the two are accused of deliberately starving the children by giving them only one meal a day.  The couple were ostensibly discovered after this abuse led to the children being hospitalized due to malnourishment.

Johnathan Savage is accused of deliberately holding his 5 year old son underwater to teach him to swim.  For those who don’t know, that’s not how that works.  Also, according to the warrants, there are non-accidental bruises on the four year old girls genitals sustained from Johnathan during potty training.

Brandi Michelle is not innocent in any of this.  The warrant also reads that she has been arrested for bruising on the four year olds face.  What is wrong with these people?  Are they evil, or was this how they were raised?  Whatever the case, I’m glad the children are back in the very capable hands of the state who will make sure they are looked after and are sent to another loving home.

All in all the parents racked up quite the rap sheet.  Johnathan Savage is charged with three felony counts of negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury and one count of misdemeanor child abuse, and his loving wife is charged with two felony counts of negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury and one count of misdemeanor child abuse.
